Poipu Kauai

E KOMO MAI

Welcome to our home.

We have owned our beautiful oceanfront condo in Poipu, Kauai since 1990. Our slice of tropical heaven has brought over 3 decades of joy to our family and to guests from all over the world.

This photo is of me (Diane Buccola) walking the labyrinth at Malaha'ulepu. When you arrive at the center of the labyrinth, you will find a lovely dedication written by a husband to his deceased wife, along with small rocks, flowers, etc., left by visitors like me.

For reference, in the aerial photo below, our condo is located upstairs in building #5 which is the building directly facing the ocean...from where the views are spectacular and the sunsets are magnificent.

May there always be tradewinds behind you, rainbows above you, and Aloha all around you.

SOUTH SHORE

THE SUNNY SIDE

POIPU, KAUAI

Nestled on the southernmost point of Kauai in the sunshine of Poipu, Makahuena will take your breath away with oceanfront views and a vibrant evening sky. You’ll appreciate the easy walking distance to the gorgeous waters of Shipwreck and Brennecke beaches, as well as Poipu Beach. Also within walking distance or a short drive is the 36-hole championship play at the Kiahuna Golf Course and the Poipu Bay Golf Course.

 Walking distance to:

  • Kauai Grand Hyatt (and all their great restaurants)
  • Shipwreck Beach/Maha'ulepa Heritage Trail
  • Brennecke Beach & Brennecke Broiler
  • Poipu Park
  • Poipu Beach & Baby Beach
  • Puka Dog & Brennecke Deli

LANAI VIEW #1

We are the most private condo on the property. It's just you and the ocean (and whales, birds, dolphins, and sea turtles.) We have window treatments but there's really no need to close them.

LANAI VIEW #2

The sunsets are spectacular and no two are ever the same. So have your camera ready to memorialize many magical moments on Kauai. (You may wonder why the seashore is not lit up at night. It's to protect the shearwater birds.)

LIVING AREA

When standing in the living area, you'll think you are on a cruise ship (no land in sight.) You will see breathtaking ocean sprays as the water hits the rocks in front of you. You can often spot whales from the living area and kitchen.

DINING AREA

Dine inside or dine outside. Six can be seated at either location. Acrylic plates and drinkware are provided.

KITCHEN

Recently remodeled with all new stainless steel appliances. In addition to a traditional coffee pot, we have also provided a Keurig.

BEDROOM 1

Let the sounds of the ocean lull you to sleep and welcome you awake. There's nothing like it. All new bedroom furniture in both bedrooms. And big closets: Two in the master (one inside the bedroom and another a few steps away in the master vanity.) Both bedrooms have traditional Hawaiian Soji sliding doors for privacy.

ALOHA

Upon entry, you will be welcomed with Aloha and a friendly local reminder:

Mahalo for removing your shoes.

On the entry table, you will find a parking pass, extra keys, and a key to the pool/jacuzzi.

The guest bedroom and full bathroom are on the left, as are the full size washer and dryer. On the right is the kitchen, dining room, living area, master bed and bath. And straight ahead will be that gorgeous view.

My advice: Leave your luggage at the entry and go straight to the lanai. You are now on Kauai time. Unpack later!

FROM DIANE

This condo and this island have been my happy place for 34 years. I have been to the other Hawaiian Islands but for me, there is something magical about Kauai. It's tranquil, it's inspiring and it's healing. I can't explain it but if you go, you'll know.

Some of you may know me from my 25 year career in the Esthetics & Spa business. Based specifically on that experience, here is what I have to say: Kauai is a place where you can forgo the makeup and jewelry and instead slap on some reef-friendly sunscreen and go enjoy your vacation as the real you. Free and unencumbered by society's definition of what "beauty" is supposed to look like.

Forget any insecurities you may have and put on your bathing suit, your sleeveless top, and your shorts and go to the beach. On this island in particular, you will be among other people who are living their best life, Kauai style.

Be the Aloha you wish to see in the world.

And lastly, if you are a curly girl, take it from me (because it took about 20 years for me to figure this out, and even then it was by accident): Don't bother with special hair styling products. What works on the Mainland probably won't work on Kauai. So just apply loads of conditioner as if it was a styling product, and then let your hair do whatever it's going to do. You'll blend right in.

With warm aloha,

Diane Buccola

"The condo was much larger than expected. We didn't need the space, but good to know for families or larger groups. The view from the lanai (outdoor balcony) was even better in person. Loved that there was AC, but also plenty of ceiling fans and fresh, ocean air for nighttime. I went to bed and woke up daily to the peaceful sound of ocean waves. There were plenty of high quality bath towels and all of the necessities that we needed, including a well-stocked kitchen. We didn't use the pool or amenities as we took full advantage of hiking and beaches, but they're well-maintained and easily accessible from the condo. The walking path to the Hyatt was scenic and convenient. I would absolutely recommend and stay at Diane's place again!"

"Diane’s place is ahhhmazing. The 180* views of the Pacific are everything. We saw dolphins swimming past, resident sea turtles who would hang out in the little cove down below, and boats in the distance. There’s a blowhole where water comes up through when the waves are right. And the sunsets are just so swoon worthy! Wowsas! The condo was stocked with toiletries and clean linens, decorated cutely, very clean, and welcoming. Perfect for my family of five adults. To boot, pool access with a hot tub is such a nice to have, right outside the front door. Awesome. Great location in Koloa - Poipu, with a 3-min drive to the beach, minutes walk to the water, and great restaurant and shopping options less than :10 away. Much mahalo to Diane who was such a gracious and communicative, helpful hostess not to mention her helpful management team! Aloha!!"

FAQs

Here are answers to some of the questions most commonly asked of me, but it's impossible to list all of the wonderful things to do on this island. So much depends on what makes you happy. So this is just a starter list.
