Below is an excerpt from my book The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clients & Achieving Financial Success. This is a personal development tool that can be applied to any endeavor you are considering; it is not limited to the esthetics business.
Fear is an important aspect of life, and it is not always a bad thing. Sometimes fear protects us from danger and in that case, it is for our own good. However, fear can also stop us when we are not in danger.

3 THINGS TO CONSIDER
Being an Esthetician is an exciting and fun career, and it definitely never gets boring because esthetics regularly reinvents itself. This is why licensed Estheticians must make continuing education a priority, even if their state license does not require it. This career involves active products and electrical machines, so it's a place where lack of proper education can harm people and ultimately ruin an Esthetician's career. So taking the proper steps from the very begin...

Let me begin by asking: Does anybody recall a time when two CA esthetics trade shows were held on the same days? ICES Long Beach and F&B San Jose are both being held this weekend, August 21-22. In my 23 years of attending trade shows, I can't remember when that has ever happened. So the vendors had to choose between shows? Or send separate crews to staff their booth at each show? Interesting. And weird.
Because a lot of CA Estheticians will be attending one of these trade shows this weeke...

Scattered throughout my new book The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clients & Achieving Financial Success are what I am calling "Notes to Spa Owners" which are gems I have picked up throughout my years of consulting.
Most self-employed Estheticians figured this out long ago, however spa owners who aren't Estheticians may not realize that they are inadvertently sabotaging the financial ...

You will read in the 2nd edition of my book, The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clients & Achieving Financial Success (2022), that my reason for going to Esthetician school was not actually to have a career as an Esthetician. My actual goal was to open a Women's Wellness Center and I thought getting my Esthetician license was the best way to begin that journey.
My original plan was to open a day spa and work in the treatment room full-time until I could afford to hire another Esthetici...
We all have business cards, of course, but is yours doing its job? Its job is much more than to provide your name and phone number. Heck, you could scribble that on a Post-it note and save the time and money necessary to have business cards printed. The job of the business card is to tell your story.
Below is an excerpt from my new book "The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clients & Achieving Financial Success" (2nd edition, 2022). It is included in Chapter 6 which is all about marketin...

Well, it is officially the first day of a new year. We've been through a lot the last couple of years, however I choose to remain optimistic and hopeful simply because it feels better than the alternative. I am prepared to deal with whatever comes, of course...but for now, I'm feeling good about 2022.
Today I am going to share with you two excerpts from my book "Notes from Your Fairy Godmother." This is a little book I created a few years ago which is not intended to be a long read. The pu...
My new book, "The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clients & Achieving Financial Success” is about the nuances of esthetics. In other words, I'm not going to tell you which products to use or which facials to offer. Nor will I advise you regarding esthetics equipment you should purchase or how to “capture” emails. You can get that advice anywhere.
The Heart of Esthetics will highlight for you the “moments of truth” that matter so much but are probably not even on your radar. Your Esthet...
Typically, when an Esthetician's otherwise loyal client suddenly stops making regular appointments, there is an obvious reason. Perhaps the client expressed dissatisfaction with a service, or maybe the client is moving out of the area. In other words, some sort of communication takes place that lets the Esthetician know why the client will not be returning.
However, when that type of client disappears for no apparent reason, it is often because the issue is a sensitive one and the client ...
